Single Quantum – SME – Delft (NL)

SINGLE QUANTUM is a European leader of Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors (SNSPDs) technology, established in Delft (Netherlands). It was born in 2012 as spin-off from TU Delft and it grew to a size of SME, each year increasing personnel and annual revenues with a steady trend. Single Quantum is renowned in the field and in the market of photonic applications for their high specs and reliable detection systems.

Single Quantum systems have already been sold to more than 200 universities, research institutes and industrial research labs all around the globe, and due to the growing demand for these devices, the company has grown to employ approximately 70 highly-specialized people with diverse backgrounds in engineering and applied physics.

In 2022 Single Quantum’s activities were moved from a start-up incubator to a separate facility, in order to facilitate further production growth.

In parallel to commercial activities, research and development efforts within Single Quantum have been also expanding over the past few years and now span various themes, including bio-imaging, quantum computing, quantum communication and quantum sensing.

Within the ARCTIC project Single Quantum is responsible for the realization of large SNSPDs arrays interconnected with cryogenic CMOS electronics by means of innovative packaging. This development will be completed with a final demonstrator proving new breakthroughs in advanced imaging applications.

To achieve this goal, Single Quantum will take care of the SNSPDs arrays design, fabrication and test, including the detectors interface in order to make them suitable to the packaging processes. In addition, Single Quantum will also assemble the demonstrator system showing with a final test the achieved device capabilities and potentialities.

Single Quantum is also coordinating the activities within WP5, being the leader for the task 5.4 “Packaging of Single-Photon Detectors”.
